These two olive wood pipes were my first pipes ever. I made them using pre-drilled kit blocks, from Vermont Freehand, with pre-made ebonite stems. I wasn’t fully tooled up for pipe crafting yet so all the shaping was done with hand tools.
I knew little to nothing about pipe smoking when I made these, much less the wood craft of pipe making.
Yin was the first, and with a bit of beginner’s luck it came out reasonably well with an almost symmetrical bowl and shank.
Having such wild success on Yin, my (over)confidence was very high starting on Yang.
